First, a brief history. This pit was first produced in the late 1940's and later sold commercially in the early 1950's. Each unit was individually handcrafted of heavy 16-gauge steel with zinc-electroplated carbon steel grills, included was a detachable shelf for holding utensils and supplies. The pit was finished in light green hammer-finished baked enamel. New and improved! A half century later, Mr. Hathorn's quality design and individual hand craftsmanship still continues to be built into each pit. A unique feature, not found on similarly styled pits, is the 16-gauge internal removable steel fire box with cast iron grate. Each pit also includes a drip can, to catch all the drippings. Most importantly, the Hathorn Pit still utilizes the indirect heat design, and when used as directed, MEAT CAN'T BURN! With a number of accessories, you can BBQ, smoke and grill.
